Voice Lessons

What you can expect from this Voice Teacher

As in all accompanied instruments, note reading is essential to have a good relationship with collaborative musicians. Nothing is more frustrating for a pianist or chamber group as when the singer cannot read music. Often the ensemble is pressed for time to prepare for an event and there is not much time to prep the singer!

If you cannot read music, we will need some time to become acquainted with the piano keyboard. This may require you to take a combination of piano and voice lessons.

Some musical instrument, usually a piano, is needed for practicing unless you accompany yourself on the guitar.  We can only accomplish so much with a CD recording. There is no flexibility when using a CD or karaoke.

Applied Voice

Singing or Voice Lessons will start with warm-ups or vocalise.  This is to acquaint the voice with where pitches belong in the mask (face) and gives us practice on making good tones repeatedly. You will find that singing in certain keys are not complimentary to your voice or some are outside your current ability.  I will err on the side of caution, especially with a young voice.  Voice quality is always the most important to preserve.

Methods

Vocal methods vary. I like to use Estelle Liebling, One Step and the Clippinger Method to give us somewhere to start.  We add as we go, building Repertoire so that you have songs you can practice and sing with 24 hr. notice.  This takes time and dedication.  Vocal training does not happen overnight!  The singer is the instrument and must be formed carefully.

Language

I teach English, Italian and German diction and singing in these languages.

Coaching

If you need to prepare for an audition or just want to brush up on your skills we can arrange one or more sessions to get prepared for the event.  These are arranged at a mutual time and there is no set commitment.  Payment for these arranged lessons are due at the coaching session.

Adult

Yes I teach adults.  🙂
